The Board of Trustees is about to commence an exercise in planning for the school’s future. The Ministry of Education call this Strategic Planning and it is a requirement as part of a board’s charter. This process takes time and will involve more than just the Board of Trustees. What the Board is aiming to achieve is a vision for the future, a vision that has clear attainable goals to be worked towards, and a clear direction to work in. This planning is focused on ongoing improvement in student achievement. The Board will be consulting with the community, listening to and gathering ideas from people and groups who have an interest in our school. For example this will involve students, parents, staff, our Maori, Pacific Island parents, other ethnic groups within the school, as well as parents of future students. After ideas have been gathered, representatives of the various groups will be invited to join with the Board of Trustees and an independent facilitator on a day later in term 3 or early term 4 to reach some decisions Final decision making rests with the Board of Trustees but other people will be able to be part of this also and the process is open. This process takes time but by the end of 2009 a clear vision and direction will have emerged. For more information about this process please visit the school website at www.konini-primary.school.nz.
